On 1
October 2004, the final part of the Disability Discrimination Act came
into force. Part III specifies that all service providers businesses
and public sector services must take reasonable action to ensure
disabled people can make full use of them.
Earlier
parts of the DDA explained policies on discrimination and the provision
of equipment to improve access, Part III specifies new duties relating
to physical changes to buildings. Premises which are not accessible to
disabled people could lead to a legal prosecution.
